Just Like Us, the LGBT+ young people’s charity, has been shortlisted for the Rainbow Honours Charity of the Year award.

The Rainbow Honours celebrates organisations and individuals dedicated to furthering LGBT+ equality and driving change for the LGBT+ community year round.

Just Like Us has been nominated for the second year running for the Rainbow Honours Charity of the Year award, a category voted for by the general public. Every vote counts, and voting closes 9 May 2025.

Just Like Us works year round to support LGBT+ young people, and champion LGBT+ inclusion in schools across the UK.

Sadly, growing up LGBT+ is still unacceptably tough. Our research shows that LGBT+ school pupils are twice as likely to have been bullied than their non-LGBT+ peers and they are more than four times as likely to rarely or never feel close to other people.

But, Just Like Us is working to change that, transforming the lives of LGBT+ young adults and ensuring schools are places where all pupils feel safe and are able to thrive.

We train LGBT+ young adult volunteers, aged 18 to 25, to speak in schools, providing powerful and relatable role models to pupils through the power of storytelling and lived experience.

Our school resource portal offers free, LGBT+ inclusive resources across the curriculum, for all key stages from EYFS to KS5, and our Pride Groups programme helps schools to run clubs for LGBT+ pupils and allies, providing free resources and tailored support.

Each year, Just Like Us also runs School Diversity Week, the UK-wide celebration of LGBT+ equality, taking place this year from 23 to 27 June 2025.

After celebrating School Diversity Week, 72% of school staff agreed that pupil wellbeing had improved, and 85% said they felt better able to support LGBT+ pupils and families.

The winners of the Rainbow Honours will be announced at an awards ceremony on 27 June 2025.
