How to hold a fundraiser for Just Like Us

Help LGBT+ young people thrive! A great way to support Just Like Us is to hold a fun event or take on a personal challenge. This could be anything that suits you, from a sponsored walk or cycle, running a marathon, making friendship bracelets, knitting jumpers or baking cakes to sell – the possibilities are endless!

And if you’re taking on a challenge for a cause you care about, your friends, relatives or colleagues are sure to support you.

“My legs ache but it was so worth it! It was an amazing day, the crowds were just fab. Thank you for all the amazing work your charity does!

If I’d have had the ambassadors in my school when I was younger the difference would have been amazing. By creating that representation you are allowing young people to be seen! Every time the going got tough, I thought of little me, but also of all the people you now help!”

Alex Knock, who ran the Manchester Marathon 2026 on behalf of Just Like Us

Set up your fundraising page

  • Once you’ve picked your idea, visit our JustGiving page to quickly set up your own fundraiser. Here you’ll find ready written wording about Just Like Us and simple steps to create your own page

  • Remember to add a few lines about your event and why you’re doing it

  • Share the link far and wide to let people easily support you

By taking on a challenge you’ll be helping to fund vital projects, like setting up Pride Groups in schools so LGBT+ young people finally have a safe space where they can be themselves and breathe. Your fundraiser will help encourage inclusivity, end bullying and build more positive environments for everyone.

“It’s an honour to be able to help in this way. For me, it’s also a deeply meaningful chance to understand and appreciate the unique journeys that members of the LGBTQ+ community go through.”

Linda Begnor, Comms and Culture Coordinator at Tesco

Why now?

Recent years have seen increasing hostility, particularly towards trans young people, and rising levels of hate crime.

As the world becomes more polarised, young people have faced a 25% increase in the most serious cases of anti-LGBT+ bullying in schools over the past four years.

Despite progression of certain legal rights such as adoption and marriage, LGBT+ young people still have little autonomy. They don’t get to choose if they grow up in an accepting home or go to a school where they’ll be bullied.

Just Like Us supports young people directly and equips allies, including teachers and parents, to make that difference possible.

Take part in the 190 Challenge

Young people spend around 190 days at school every year. These 190 days should be safe and inclusive, but for many LGBT+ young people, sadly, they are not.

Please take part in the 190 Challenge and help us transform school days for LGBT+ young people across the UK. All children deserve to feel safe, happy, and proud of who they are at school – your support can help make that a reality.

“I’ve got friends! I had no friends in year 7, and now I have friends.”
