Book LGBT+ speakers for schools with Just Like Us

Just Like Us

Published: March 14, 2025

Just Like Us, the LGBT+ young people’s charity, provides LGBT+ speakers for schools who use storytelling to bring authentic, meaningful representation to pupils.

Just Like Us’ school talks are delivered to secondary schools and colleges across the UK by our ambassadors, who are trained LGBT+ volunteers. They’re all aged 18 to 25 and share their own lived experiences, making their talks authentic and relatable to young people.

Talks are delivered to thousands of pupils across the UK each year, both in person and virtually, and can be tailored to your school community, with one-to-one support from the Just Like Us team.

Just Like Us provides schools with a summary of their student impact data based on feedback survey responses, helping schools understand how the LGBT+ speakers impacted pupils, and gain further insight into attitudes towards LGBT+ inclusion in their school.

Just Like Us’ LGBT+ speakers for schools are ‘honest and engaging’

Angela, a secondary school teacher in Brighton who booked a school talk with Just Like Us, said: “We have had speakers come into school before but I thought it would be nice to have some young people who are closer to the ages of our students. Also the option of having a virtual talk was key to us being able to book.

“The talks went so well and I got a quite a few comments from students and staff about how good they were.  The young people presenting our virtual talk were really honest and engaging.  I remember some aspects being quite difficult to hear and I had an emotional response but unfortunately it wasn’t really surprised by some of the experiences they described and there were also lots of positive experiences shared.

“Our students decided to donate some of the money raised on Pride Day to Just Like Us as a thank you. One good thing that has improved since the talks is that students have been reporting incidents more. Although I can’t link this improvement directly to the talks, I would 100% recommend Just Like Us school talks to other schools and we will be booking again.”
