Just Like Us

Published: January 22, 2025

Just Like Us has launched brand new, free resources for primary schools for LGBT+ History Month.

The resources for primary schools celebrating LGBT+ History Month include an assembly exploring how the world has changed for LGBT+ people throughout history, and posters with messages of inclusion and encouraging allyship.

The resources also delve into the history of LGBT+ Pride flag, and how we can celebrate change.

Other LGBT+ History Month resources for primary schools available on Just Like Us’ school resource portal include an assembly that encourages respect and the celebration of our differences, and profiles for use in lessons on key LGBT+ trailblazers throughout history, like astronaut Sally Ride and artist Keith Haring.

There are also ideas for incorporating LGBT+ figures into various curriculum subjects, from Science to Art and Design.

How to download free LGBT+ History Month primary resources

If you are a staff member at a UK primary school, secondary school or sixth form college, you can access Just Like Us’ free resources by following the below steps:

Independent research has found a link between positive messaging about being LGBT+ in schools and pupils having better mental health, regardless of whether the pupils are LGBT+ or not.

LGBT-inclusive environments at home and at school are also linked to better outcomes for LGBT+ young people, from their mental health to their relationships to their optimism about the future, that last into adulthood.
