Back To School 2025: Free LGBT+ Inclusion Resources for UK Teachers
Published: September 2, 2025
As teachers and pupils head back to the classroom for the 2025/26 school year, it’s the perfect time to think about how to get LGBT+ inclusion right from day one. Creating a welcoming and supportive environment can set the tone for the whole year and lets pupils know they will be fully included in school life.
What difference inclusion can make in the classroom
Inclusion in school can be especially important for LGBT+ young people. Our research found that unsupportive homes or school backgrounds have a detrimental effect on the mental health of LGBT+ young people. In fact, LGBT+ young people from unsupportive homes and schools are four times more likely to feel ashamed of being, gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.
It can feel a little daunting and overwhelming trying to figure out the best or most meaningful ways to build an inclusive school community (on top of all the other work you have to do). However, this type of work doesn’t require armfuls of worksheets or intensive training to get started. Just Like Us is here to make your job just a bit easier with free support tools, ideas, inspiration, and helpful resources to make your inclusive year the best it can be. So whether you’re looking for LGBT+ reading lists, posters, lesson plans or videos, find it all in our free resource library.
Free inclusion posters
Decorate your classroom, corridors and libraries with a variety of posters that show your students that difference is something to be celebrated and proud of.
Free inclusive reading lists
Reading is a crucial part of children and young people’s development and what they read can have a huge impact on how they see the world. To encourage allyship and empower LGBT+ young people and families, we have an annual reading list that offers a mix of books suitable for all ages to diversify your school library.
Welcome back assembly slides
We have ready-to-go assembly slides that are free for primary school teachers to download. The assembly is focused on understanding differences, what LGBT+ stands for, and how pupils can work together to make everyone feel welcome.
