Statement on the Supreme Court ruling on interpretation of the Equality Act 2010

Following the Supreme Court ruling on the interpretation of the term “woman” in the Equality Act 2010, Just Like Us released the following statement.

Laura Mackay, Chief Executive of Just Like Us, the LGBT+ young people’s charity, said: “We know that yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling has deeply affected trans people’s sense of safety and mental health.

“We also know that the Supreme Court judgement strongly affirmed the legal protections trans people have against discrimination and harassment on the basis of gender reassignment.

“We want all trans and gender diverse people to know that who you are is special. And it’s more important than ever that teachers and families let young trans people know that they are there for them. We would also encourage anyone that is struggling with the news to reach out for support.”
