We’re Just Like Us, the UK’s LGBT+ young people’s charity.

Growing up LGBT+ is still unacceptably tough. Founded in 2016, we work with 4 in 5 secondary schools and thousands of primary schools across the UK to ensure LGBT+ young people can thrive.

  • We have the UK’s largest cohort of LGBT+ volunteers aged 18 to 25, who we train to speak in schools. We help them develop skills, use their voice and find community

  • More than 14,000 teachers across the UK use our digital resource library, containing hundreds of LGBT+ inclusive resources for EYFS to KS5 such as lesson plans, assemblies, circle and form time activities, posters, and videos, all available to download for free

  • We train volunteer ambassadors aged 18 to 25 to share their stories of growing up LGBT+, answer pupils’ questions and show the next generation that being LGBT+ is something to be celebrated

  • We support 1 in 4 UK secondary schools to set up and run lunchtime clubs for their LGBT+ and ally pupils, creating safe, welcoming spaces where young people can finally be themselves

  • Rainbow Friday sees school communities across the UK celebrate Pride by dressing up in rainbow colours to fundraise for Just Like Us

Our finances

As a charity, we are committed to financial transparency and for our supporters to understand how we spend the money we raise to help LGBT+ young people to thrive. We are extremely grateful to all our supporters for their continued generosity across all areas of our work despite the challenging times, and we are committed to ensuring our income is used efficiently, effectively and responsibly by making every pound count.

  • Our total income in 2024/25 was £1,141,092 and our expenditure was £1,101,733.

Our stories

Why we’re needed.

LGBT+ young people are still twice as likely to have been bullied at school (43%) in the last year compared to their non-LGBT+ peers (21%). One in five LGBT+ pupils (18%) didn’t tell anyone that they’d been bullied.

Even though LGBT+ young people are disproportionately struggling, there is also room for hope as we know positive messages of LGBT+ acceptance benefits all young people. That’s why we want all educators to work with us to provide LGBT+ inclusion in schools so every young person knows they belong and can be themselves.
