The 190 challenge for Pride: Show your support for LGBT+ young people

Just Like Us

Published: June 20, 2026

Young people spend around 190 days at school every year.

These 190 days should be safe and inclusive, but for many LGBT+ young people, sadly, they are not. Recent reports have shown that bullying of LGBT+ children is on the rise in the UK. Schools have seen a 25% increase in the most extreme cases of anti-LGBT+ bullying leading to exclusions and suspensions in just the past three years. Bullying can have a devastating impact on young people, affecting them well into adulthood.

At Just Like Us, we are working to change this. Please take part in the 190 Challenge and help us transform school days for LGBT+ young people across the UK. All children deserve to feel safe, happy, and proud of who they are at school – your support can help make that a reality.

We provide vital resources to teachers, and empower LGBT+ young adults to share their stories, promoting inclusive school communities. But we can’t continue to do this without the support of amazing people like you.

What is the 190 challenge?

To represent the 190 days young people spend in school, we’re inviting you to walk 190km! You can take on this challenge yourself, or with a team, and do it at your own pace. You have until the end of August 2026 to finish your walk. (As a guide, 1km is about 1,400 steps. So walking 10,000 steps a day for 27 days would hit the target.)

Not a walker? No problem! You can also:

  • Run, cycle, swim, or canoe 190km.
  • Create your own challenge – perhaps spending 190 minutes doing your favourite activity – baking, knitting etc…
  • Or simply make a donation to support the campaign and LGBT+ young people directly.

Every kilometre and every pound raised helps us make schools safer and more inclusive for LGBT+ young people.
