LGBT+ inclusive books for children: Explore our primary school reading list
Published: October 26, 2026
Just Like Us’ primary school reading list helps schools, libraries and families provide vital representation through LGBT+ inclusive books for children.
Just Like Us is a pledge partner for the National Year of Reading, a UK-wide campaign designed to help more people rediscover the joy of reading, and we know how important it is for all children to be able to see themselves and their families represented in the books and stories they have access to.
We also know how important reading can be at all stages of development, and the impact it can have on how we see the world.
LGBT+ inclusive books are for all children, whether or not they are LGBT+ or have LGBT+ families; reading helps children learn about the world around them, building understanding and empathy.
Our research has shown that LGBT+ inclusive education improves the wellbeing of all young people, but our LGBT+ Parents Report showed that only 12% of LGBT+ parents say their child’s school has LGBT+ inclusive books for pupils to read.
